Outer Sunset is a neighborhood that is chiefly tranquil and private, but has small patches of commercial activities at Noriega and Taraval streets. Summers in Outer Sunset is foggy thus it lures people who want to escape the summer heat to the district. Commuting to and from downtown San Francisco is easy for the residents as they can opt for any of Muni’s N-Judah, L-Taraval, 16X-Noriega Express and 71L-Haight/Noriega Limited lines.

The district is bounded by Ocean Beach and offers the locals with plentiful outdoor recreational prospects. For biking, jogging or walking, Sunset Boulevard with its tree-lined routes is the perfect place and it also offers easy access to paths in Golden Gate Park. The locals also go to Ocean Beach to stroll along the Pacific Ocean and to surf – which is a popular activity all year round. Fort Funston is also in close proximity and families go there to explore the dunes and at the same time hang gliders fly over their heads. The highest point in all of San Francisco Mount Davidson Park, offers an exciting hike for those interested in hiking and completely delightful views in every direction.

The San Francisco Zoo offers families the chance to have an intimate encounter with wildlife, and the education center often holds classes on animals and conservation there. Educational events and exhibits are usually hosted at the neighborhood’s Parkside Branch of the San Francisco Public Library.

The homes in Outer Sunset vary from multiunit to single-family homes. Many of the homes have fireplaces, garages, hardwood floors and flat backyards which is ideal for family activities.
